“Buffalo Soldiers”
The native Americans coined the term “Buffalo Soldiers”
to describe the Black Americans serving in the Ninth Cavalry because
their skin color and hair texture resembled their main source of
food and clothing, the Buffalo. These two soldiers are included
in the western art category of my web site, www.donverongallery.com.
This painting, executed in acrylics on canvas, measures 16”
X 20”. It is framed and ready to add to the home of anyone
who loves Western Art or Native American art.
I enjoy the challenge of portrait
work, and chose these two contemporary soldiers to evoke an attitude
of purpose and dignity to subject that is not always remembered
in Western Art or Native American art. Western art is a great American
tradition and covers a wide variety of subject matter that I explore,
including native American art, wildlife art of all kinds and cowboy
art.
