The Jump - "Jurors Award at
the first Federation of Canadian Artists"
“The Jump” I must
say is one of my favorites that is not emotionally attached to my
family. It was an idea that came to me one afternoon and after an
extensive review of references and a ‘few’ sketches
later this image emerged into one of the most powerful yet simple
portraits I’ve ever done.
The Jump received Jurors Award at the first Federation of Canadian
Artists Thompson Nicola Shuswap Chapter Art Show.
It was one of the pieces of original artwork that I entered to be
juried that helped me to achieve my Active Status into the Federation.
Since then, it has been on the front cover of “The Horsemen’s
Corral” Vol# 38 Number 5 May 2006, and also was advertised
within the “Merrill Lynch Hunter Jumper Classic” as
a representation for my work as a new and upcoming Canadian Equestrian
and Portrait Artist. It’s also been recognized through the
“Northern Ohio Live” magazine, the one and only prestigious
leading “Arts and Culture” magazine in the state of
Ohio.
Deep within this particular
piece of artwork, there is that hidden drive and motivation there
that we all feel while focused on a specific goal. But yet there
is also that special lightness of the free spirit that can truly
evoke a true love of the sport.
These are one of those memorable times that I have been able to
capture something that is so ordinary and make it just a little
bit extraordinary and unique. It’s the start of my own style
that is slowly starting to emerge from within.
It truly is a portrait of determination, emotion and intent and
I am incredibly proud to have my signature on it.
