Above
the Sage
Western landscapes have always caught my eye and I have always
wanted to learn how to paint them. Now that I have painted a variety
of western art landscapes, I have a developed a newfound appreciation
for those talented western artists whom have the ability to do
this well. I am learning all that I can by studying this new technique,
it’s a new way of painting for me and I am starting to look
at our western landscapes differently.
As a portrait artist, I am trying to expand my horizons and
it has been very difficult not to get caught up in the details.
And horrifically…I love details!
So when a huge upcoming art exhibition and show was called to
all of the Active Canadian Federation artists here in the Thompson
Nicola Shuswap Chapter for the Kamloops “Communities in
Bloom Festival”, I felt it would be a wonderful opportunity
to ‘expand’ my world and try a new type of landscape.
I put together a series of different photos I had taken of our
western cattle ranchlands, for these entries had to represent
the Kamloops area, and what a better image, than the beautiful
vast open cattle ranges that are “Above the Sage”
brush which is so significant to our area. It was important to
me to include the working cowboy overlooking his paradise upon
his horse. As he is quietly over looking his western homeland,
maybe in reflection
of the beauty that surrounds him or maybe in frustration, trying
to search for that elusive cow gone missing.
