The
Roper
This is one of my earlier pieces from the
beginning of my journey with my western and horse art portraits
and paintings. Now, since my artwork has progressed, I find myself
still drawn back time and time again, to this original portrait
of western art. It still amazes me to this day, how I can achieve
the power and intent of a fleeting moment, and it inspires me to
be able to do more and more. I constantly keep my eyes open for
those few and fortunate moments of unique opportunities to create
something just a little bit different.
My brother-in-law is a Canadian Team Roper and I am fortunate enough
to use him in some of my western rodeo art portraits. I thank my
sister-in-law for putting up with the constant pestering I put her
through for more ‘reference photos’. Thank you Pam!
“The
Roper” is a western painting that captures that one intense,
focused moment of whether or not he, the cowboy, achieves his goal…
Will the rope lie upon its mark or will it miss?
