The Eventer
My passion is to some day to
be able to have the time to get back into 3-Day Eventing. It is
the most amazing, challenging, and heart thumping experience I’ve
ever known. To have the controlled power of a horse beneath you,
going as fast as you can through a vast cross-country course is
quite exhilarating to say the least.
I had the opportunity to shadow
a professional equestrian photographer and after I reassured him
I was not his competition, we had a wonderful day together. He taught
me so many things on style, composition, tips on what makes a great
photo shot from an average one, lighting and total overall art of
horse photography. He was such an inspiration for me; he even let
me use his BIG digital camera…WOW! Honestly, it really doesn’t
take much to make me happy! I was defiantly in my element that day,
what an opportunity he gave me, and we had so much fun.
So after many hours of watching
and learning, I decided to take all my newfound information I learned
and put a bit of an artistic twist to it. Helpful hint… stay
out of harms way and put yourself into a safe spot with the smallest
amount of risk of bodily injury, need I say more? That artistic
passion seems to come at a dangerous cost at times. But a few hundred
effective photos were taken and one of them was created to be this
beautiful horse art portrait “The Eventer”.
I am proud to say that this
equestrian horse art portrait was juried and accepted into the ‘Hyper-Real’
show in Vancouver, British Columbia this April, 2006 through the
Federation of Canadian Artists and was displayed in their gallery
for 2 weeks. So it was worth the occasional ‘mad dash’
and ‘close calls’ to capture ‘that one moment’.
